MOVED and Changes

I haven't even had a chance to post the notice here - but we are FINALLY settled in in Lufkin now - I have closed Donna Quarles Photography and gone into a partnership with a photographer here. We are now Studio 220 Photography. You can keep up with us at www.studio220photo.blogspot.com.

For those who may still have some outstanding orders or questions, please contact me at studio220photography@gmail.com or call me at 936.699.2012. We have been extremely busy and chaotic though, so it may take a few days for me to get back with you, but please be patient. It has been a very hard transition.... I will try to get back with our monthly newsletters ASAP and we are trying to merge our websites soon as well.

Mothers & Daughters

This was my first session with a mother and grown daughter. I really didn't have a vision up front for it, but I got there and we waited for the rain to go away and I just loved watching them with each other. Kiera and Crystal really seemed to have a great relationship and friendship.

These are some of my favorites and I hope they can look back on these in 20 years and remember how much fun it was :)

These cuties came in for Miss E's 6 month portraits. But big brother was so cute we had to get some shots with him too. Mom said E doesn't smile much, and she WAS a very serious baby, but we managed to get a few smiles from her :) But with curls like this, who needs the smile to be cute??

The Jackson Family

They came down from Hillsboro to visit their family and have their portraits made. The boys were cracking me up, their personalities are so much like my own daughters and they are the same ages, so I could totally relate to them :) Both boys had their own settings and poses in mind already and were full of suggestions. Carter, the younger one, though he is full of smiles, really wanted some serious looks in the posing. So this first one is just for him ("I want everybody to look serious!")

And mom's style meshes with mine, we are both suckers for backwards shots of our kids . .. .

The Collins Family

This was a very special session to me. Stacey was one of my childhood friends, we basically grew up together from 2nd grade thru my 9th grade year, cheered thru junior high together, went to church together. After years of losing touch of each other, we finally got back in touch and now I had the privilege of photographing her family. Luke is still at the age where he wasn't too thrilled with the idea :) But I think we still got some cute stuff. Real stuff.

Stacey & Chuck - it was SO great hanging out with you guys again. I look forward to my move back to Lufkin and hope we can hang out more when you come to visit!

I got the keys!

Well, I went to Lufkin Friday and signed for my new studio. I have the keys in hand now. Lots of work needs to be done. But it's going to be fabulous! It's located at 109 E. Shepherd downtown. Next to the old bus station. For those in Lufkin ready to book appointments, my phone number is 936.465.9679 - this number will still ring at the Angleton office for now. And in the future the Angleton number will still reach me in Lufkin. So all you current clients, nothing will change about how you reach me :)

AND I've decided to keep my business name the same - Donna Quarles Photography.

I'll post pics through out our change and I can't wait to see the finished product! My girls and I walked around downtown all day Friday just looking at backgrounds and great photo opp areas. Lufkin is full of them! It's so different to view it thru a photographers eye than they way I saw it for all the years I actually lived there.

And a HUGE Thank You and hug to all the Angleton area 2008 & 2009 seniors who have emailed me to tell me they plan to drive to my studio there. I can't wait!

Trash the Dress - Before the Wedding

First I have to say a HUGE thank you and I love you to Amber for allowing me to post these before the wedding. ... I am SO going to miss you girl :) Amber was one of my husbands students our first year here in Angleton. Now she is a teacher there too, and has quickly become one of my best friends. She is one of the toughest things about moving, we both hate to leave her here :)

But since I am moving to Lufkin/Nacogdoches and we did her bridal portraits there, she said I had to post pics from there.

There's a new trend going around called Trash the Dress. Brides spend so much money on their beautiful dresses that they will wear one, maybe two days, but the whole time they are worried about getting it dirty so their portraits are "safe & clean" Well why not schedule a session AFTER the wedding and get awesome portraits in your beautiful dress without the worry of messing it up, after all when are you going to wear it again?

Amber let me do whatever I wanted BEFORE her wedding. She climbed up a rusty fire escape, walked thru a forest, and . . . . well I will save one surprise location and pic for their wedding day, but he will LOVE it.

It was so refreshing to go to a new place and find cool spots for her. And what a trooper! We really got some great stuff.

Wedding Season is Upon Us!

With the crazy senior season almost behind us, wedding season is getting into high gear now. I don't always make time to blog my weddings so I'm going to try to catch up in the next few days giving some sneak peeks to our couples and their guests. Our turnaround time for proofing should be shorter now.

And for those who have called and asked, yes we are moving back to Lufkin. And yes we will still book weddings in the Houston/Angleton area. So if you have been considering using us for you wedding but are concerned because we are moving - YES we still would love to help you!

Here are some shots from Becki & Bryan's wedding. This couple was SO great to work with, one of the most laid back easy going couples. And to their parents - thanks for making our job so easy :) I'll post some more later, these were just the ones that caught my eye from the moment I snapped the shutter....

New Family

Sarah

Sarah is one of my few Danbury seniors this year. Such a sweet and beautiful girl! Check out her gorgeous prom dress. Speaking of prom, Danbury's prom is this weekend as well as Angleton's. Nick

Nick was my first guy willing to brave an all day trip to Houston. Our first Urban Expedition guy. It was the shortest UE too and I guess that's because guys change outfits faster, or maybe he was just really hungry and ready for the meal :)

Seniors Galore!

Seniors are coming in like crazy right now . . . so lots to share from this week.

First here is Trevor. He's the last of 5 brothers, my 3rd one to photograph. I can't believe he's graduating already! I met his mom when he was just a 6th or 7th grader!! I'm really feeling old now.

By the way, any of you in Angleton or surrounding areas, this weekend is the benefit for his mom, Cheryl Peterson. She's just finished her treatments for breast cancer. The benefit is going to be in Danbury I think. I'll try to get more info and post it. This is a great family to come out and support.

Next we have Boyd. He's graduating from Angleton this year. We had a great time going around town with his mom. She said he would need help in the posing area, as he's not a natural model, but I think he did great. And I LOVE this shirt Boyd!

Here's the cute Miss Kristi. I haven't seen alot of girls with green eyes but this girl has some beautiful ones! Kristi graduated early from Angleton but is going to walk with her class next month. Congratulations on such an achievement Kristi!

And here is Abel. I found out after they booked their session that we go to church together. Mom told me he was the quiet one, but I don't believe it :) He sure did like to pick on me and laugh when I almost stepped in an ant bed or my reflector would fall. It was so nice to meet you both!

Deidrea & Casey

This cute couple is getting married this fall. I did her beautiful sisters wedding in December and have fallen in love with this family. They are so sweet, so beautiful and just a pleasure to work with.

Of course getting Casey to behave was a challenge :) Our first few shots he got distracted with a pair of tennis shoes that were hanging in the tree above us . . .

And we had a tough time teaching him how to "dip" her. I told him to practice because we will be expecting him to do better at the wedding. So get busy Casey!

Krystal's Urban Expedition

We had the BEST time yesterday at Krystal's Urban Expedition. We literally shot until it was too dark to. I told her I've had some great sessions, but hers will be tough to beat. At one point we ran into some people visiting the US from London, and they really thought she was a model and they kept getting in the shots! And wanted their picture taken with her too! We laughed about that :)

So here are several favorites of mine, and boy did i have a tough time narrowing it down to these! And yes the rainbow was really there, that is NOT a photoshop trick....

Melissa is a senior at Angleton this year. She's another soccer player so I'm posting a shot with her soccer ball. I love when athletes come in a bring their equipment and uniforms.

March is booked up for outdoors sessions, and we have a few spots left for studio sessions. In April, we will be booking dates by locations. Sad Day

Most of my clients know that my mother-in-law has been battling brain cancer for over two years now. Today (well yesterday now) the battle is over. She passed away Saturday morning at her home. I will be out of the studio for a few days, so we will have to reschedule some of you and I apologize, but it can not be helped. And some of you are waiting for online albums, please be patient and give me a few more days.

Jessica will be at the studio for order pickups and any questions, and to keep that end of the studio flowing.

Britney is one of my Angleton seniors. She's an officer on the Aristocats Drill Team. I always love photographing dancers because you can pose them in ways that normally would just look silly. But to a dancer it's just natural.

Our weekends are fully booked until June, but I had a change of plans for something and now have a Saturday available! March 24 - I'm offering this day up for a portrait party before I open it up for regular sessions.

If you are not familiar with our portrait party plan here are some specifics on it:

*We bring the studio to your home, one background and several props for different ages. We will need a garage or large room to set up. Or we can host your party at our studio.

What fun!!

Last night was our Ladies Night Out Limited Edition. We had a few cancellations but the ones who showed up really had fun I think. Their portraits turned out beautiful! We had a wonderful hair & makeup artist available and she was wonderful! Sisters

Brunette Beauty - I love photographing brunette's! This is Krystalyn - This girl could go from a pout to a smile that would just light up her face in the blink of an eye! I don't know when I've ever seen someone's face light up when they smile like hers!

First Senior Urban Expedition

Today Amy & Karen went on their Urban Expedition. This is our all day trip to Houston to find unique and fun locations that fit your style and personality. These girls love music and the arts so we went to the Theater District. After dinner at The Aquarium they were pretty tired on the ride back home but I think we all had a blast!

These sessions can last 4-6 hours with the dinner included so they must be done on weekends. If you are interested in an Urban Expedition please call as our 2006 calendar is full so we are booking the Expeditions for the spring already.

Move is complete!

I apologize to everyone who has been trying to get in touch with us the past two days and wondering why we didn't answer or return your emails quickly.

Today we finished packing and moving the studio to the new location. It will be a mess for another week or so, but then we will have a Grand Reopening soon to show off our new bigger, better space!

Here's one of my Angleton seniors. I'm so glad she came in for her sessions today, Lisa is proof that you don't have to have a toothy grin or smile big to still have beautiful portraits. I tried really hard to get a good laugh from her but nothing worked. I got a slight smile when I almost fell off a stool :)

Big News!

Ok, Guess I can tell you today. Donna Quarles Photography is moving!

Just across the street, but we are more than doubling our space. What does this mean to you? It means more shooting options, we will have more room in the camera room to create unique setups for you. We will be able to better provide customer service for you and make your visit more comfortable.

Things may be crazy and a mess for a little while during our construction, but please pardon the mess and know that we are always striving to make your experience with us better.

Our new location is in the Firestone, KD's Pizza shopping center directly across the street from our current location. The move will take place next week!

We took Jacey out to Manna Fields Farm for a session in her Halloween costume. Isn't this the cutest Little Witch you've ever seen? She' s a doll!

You all need to watch this video clip. Part of my job is to make you look your best. And I know women are so self critical most of the time. I too hate the way I look in photos, but it's because of our distorted view of what "Real" beauty is . . . what you see in the media, magazines, TV, is not reality.

I want my daughters to grow up with a healthy self esteem. They are just as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. I would love some feedback on how we can help our teens and pre-teen daughters love themselves . . . .

New Family Portrait Style - "Real Family"

We now offer a different type of family session. Our Real Family session is a black background with dark clothing. All the posing is close and intimate focusing on the family itself, not the background or props. I recently did one of these session with my mother-in-law and all her grandchildren. Some of you may know she has brain cancer and we don't know how much time we have left with her. So these portraits were very important for me to have for my children when they get older (read note at bottom of this thread).
